Gemotions

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the freshly mown lawn as Amelia leaned against the weathered oak tree in her backyard. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, creating a soothing symphony. She’d finally finished unpacking the last box, and a peaceful stillness settled over her. With a steaming mug of chamomile tea warming her hands, she decided to explore the attic. Curiosity tugged, but the sense of calm made the chore seem more of a pleasant diversion than a burden.

Upstairs, dust motes danced in the lone shaft of light filtering through the attic window. She moved slowly, her footsteps barely making a sound on the creaky floorboards. A forgotten trunk sat in the corner. Its lock was broken, and with a soft sigh, Amelia lifted the heavy lid.

Inside, nestled amongst yellowed newspapers, lay a collection of antique dolls. Their porcelain faces stared blankly, their tiny dresses faded but intact. A small smile crept across Amelia's lips. This felt like a discovery, not a task.
